The opportunities to specialize abroad are growing not only due to the number of countries offering funding, but also because of an increased variety of disciplines to study. The University of Maryland, one of the most prestigious in the United States, has begun to accept applications to its post doctorate in Latin American Studies program.
The University of Maryland is an institution that is characterized by its world-class research. Its ranking of 38th among international universities marks this as a singular opportunity to pursue postdoctoral study.
U Maryland’s Center for Latin American Studies is offering the residential fellowship for the academic years 2009-2010. Research topics range from culture and democracy, to governance, civil society and Asian immigration to Latin America.
The scholarship is specified for Postdoctoral studies, namely, students with a PhD or equivalent. Senior and junior scholars from any country are eligible. Applicants do not need to be affiliated to an academic institution. Fellows receive $ 20,000 for one semester.
Candidates who receive the award will enter into "full-time residence" at the university throughout the academic period. (Fall: late August-mid December, Spring: end of January mid-May). They will be asked to teach a seminar within the unit appropriate to the Fellows' discipline.
